The module Fileserver Management allows the secure, transparent and cost-effective management of NTFS-based permissions. Defined permissions (meta data) are constantly compared with the actual NTFS permissions in the file system and the associated AD groups (monitoring). Continuous auditing enables to trace back the permission situation at any time and, for example, create historical analysis reports.

The Access Manager automates access management for file servers and SharePoint. Based on a classic distributed client-server architecture, it utilizes an agent concept to simultaneously perform multiple tasks in large and distributed environments. The actual software runs as a web application on a dedicated server and offers the management console for administrators and the Self-Service Portal as an interface to the users. This is also where the database (Microsoft SQL Server) also runs as standard, where all permission, management and log data are stored. The Access Manager agent is installed on any desired server and takes care of executing the tasks. Multiple agents can also be set up to share the load in large or broadly distributed infrastructures. This minimizes network load and latency in communication with the central Access Manager server.

SharePoint Management

The module SharePoint Management applies the proven access management concept from the Fileserver Management basic module to Microsoft SharePoint 2013 as well as 2016 and Microsoft SharePoint 365 site collections. Organizations thereby gain a common point of contact for users and data controllers, where they can request, manage and audit permissions for file servers and SharePoint servers.

Password Reset

With the Password Reset module, a self-service reset tool, employees can reset forgotten passwords themselves without contacting the service desk – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The module is easy to use and has an extremely high user acceptance. This allows you to make your password management processes efficient and cost-optimized.

The Password Reset is characterized by a very flexible configurability. Users can choose between different authentication methods, which can be combined to comply with the security policy of the target system. In practice, this means that, for example, a simple authentication is sufficient for the password for intranet applications, but a 2-factor authentication is used when resetting the password for an SAP HR system.

Easy Desktop

The module Easy Desktop offers end users even more convenience in self-service: The Microsoft WindowsTM Explorer plug-in EASY DESKTOP enables the most important functions to be executed directly via the context menu of the respective directories.

Directories managed by the Access Manager and visible in Self Service are marked by an orange symbol directly on the folder. Right-clicking on such an authorisation folder opens its context menu and the following functions are directly available:

The analysis tool NTFS Permission Analyzer helps you determine the current state of NTFS permission situation on your file servers. Especially when confronted with legacy permission structures, a file server migration or the restructuring of file servers, the NTFS Permission Analyzer is a reliable tool for gaining an overview with ease. At the same time, the NTFS Permission Analyzer also prepares the first step towards future automated access management using the Access Manager.

A scan may be started in any subsection of your file servers. Once the scan is finished, the result is an overview of the current NTFS permission situation which can then be exported into an easy-to-understand Excel file. This exported file contains all NTFS permissions per folder and user, for example.

Scanning and analyzing the permission structure encompasses any number of nested permissions as well as users directly authorized in the NTFS and permissions assigned via nested AD groups. Naturally, the NTFS Permission Analyzer will also recognize potential circle relationships in AD groups while scanning and can also automatically clear orphaned SIDs (zombie users).
